International Women’s Day and the gender pay gap

Businesses with a gender pay gap that shared posts about International Women’s Day were targeted by a twitter bot, which shared forward their posts with a tweet highlighting their pay gap.

Personnel Today covered the story and our employment partner Amanda Lennon contributed, discussing the importance of transparency, and how businesses can avoid accusations of virtue signalling, saying:

“There is a clear issue with the gender pay in many UK businesses, which is why we have legislation around the reporting of these figures. It is much better for firms with pay gaps to be honest about the situation and explain how they are tackling the issue, rather than use PR spin to support an initiative or event that they cannot evidence compliance with in their business.”
