In February 2023, Michael became a Partner in the Commercial Property team at Spencer West, having previous been a partner in several well-regarded City of London law firms where he has dedicated the majority of his career.
His client base spans property companies, investors, SIPPs, high net worth individuals, and business entities seeking premises. He specializes in advising overseas companies with UK business interests in securing suitable premises.
His expertise encompasses acquisitions, disposals, lettings, and portfolio management, catering to landlords, tenants, buyers, and sellers. Michael boasts enduring relationships, some lasting over two decades, with a loyal client base. He maintains strong ties with asset managers and commercial property agents and frequently collaborates with various professionals on property projects and advising on the property assets in corporate transactions. Known for his commercial acumen, he is unhesitant in initiating direct conversations to drive deals to fruition.
Recent years have seen him heavily involved in advising landlords and tenants on lease negotiations, acquiring, and disposing of freehold assets, and looking after the legal side of client’s property portfolios. He has acquired buildings for serviced office providers, and also acted for purchasers in their acquisition of large industrial warehouse units.
During lockdown, he chaired property-focused webinars and panel discussions on Zoom, involving industry specialists including agents, surveyors, and accountants.
Beyond his legal career, Michael actively engages in City life. He is the Immediate Past Master of The Worshipful Company of World Traders, is the Honorary Ward Clerk for Cripplegate Ward, and is the Honorary Solicitor to the Worshipful Company of Educators. For this Mayoral year, he is Chairman of The Steering Group for The Lord Mayor’s Initiative on the Smart Economy Networks.
