Yoganand (Yog) Ramtohul is a Barrister-at-Law admitted to the Mauritian Bar in 2016, with a practice focused on tax, customs, regulatory and commercial disputes. He advises individuals, businesses and corporate clients on complex tax and commercial contentious and advisory matters, with expertise in Mauritian tax law, international taxation, transfer pricing, VAT and customs law.

Prior to joining Spencer West as a Partner, Yog has served as Legal Counsel at the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) for nearly 6 years, where he gained extensive first-hand experience of tax administration, assessments, audits, investigations and dispute resolution. He has represented and advised on complex matters before the Assessment Review Committee and the Revenue Tribunal and worked extensively with the Income Tax Act, VAT Act, Customs Act and other related revenue legislation. This experience has provided him with a valuable understanding of both the regulatory perspective and the practical concerns faced by taxpayers and businesses when dealing with tax authorities.

His practice encompasses tax litigation and controversy, tax assessments and audits, customs disputes, international tax matters, transfer pricing, VAT and regulatory disputes, as well as related commercial and civil litigation. He takes a practical and commercially focused approach to legal matters taking into consideration the legal issue but also the client’s wider commercial objectives, risk exposure and desired outcome. Yog provides technically rigorous advice while developing clear and practical strategies for resolving disputes, managing regulatory risk and protecting clients’ interests.
