Amanda Lennon comments on Ikea’s approach to unvaccinated staff and sick leave

Ikea’s policy of cutting sick pay for unvaccinated staff who have to isolate after coming into contact with someone with Covid-19 has attracted a lot of press interest.

One of our employment experts, Amanda Lennon comments on the issues involved in leading retail sector publication, the Retail Gazette. Amanda suggests that other employers should be cautious about introducing similar policies, saying:

“My concern is that an employee could argue that they are being treated less favourably because they are unvaccinated. Retailers will have to be very clear in their policies around this to ensure they do not open themselves up to grievances and claims of discrimination, particularly where certain groups may be less likely to be vaccinated.”
