John McMahon joins Ulster University’s Centre for Legal Technology advisory board
Spencer West Northern Ireland Founding Partner John McMahon has joined the advisory board of Ulster University’s new Centre for Legal Technology, which aims to explore how AI can improve the delivery of legal services.
The Centre, based at the University’s Belfast campus, is currently focusing on using AI to support judicial decision-making, manage mass claims, and improve the conveyancing process.
John, a corporate and commercial lawyer, commented on the importance of the CLT’s role as a conduit between AI and legal practitioners.
“As each day passes the influence of AI on the sector increases. My hope is that the Centre for Legal Technology will help law practitioners embrace the technology for the benefit of their own practices and their clients, and that it can help streamline and unburden our court service in facilitating early resolution of disputes in a cost-effective manner.”
John’s role on the advisory board reflects Spencer West’s emphasis on Partners contributing to the wider community, using their expertise to shape the future of the profession.
The Centre for Legal Technology at Ulster University officially launched on 18 September. Several projects are underway and involve various start-ups and organisations adjacent to the AI and legal technology sectors.
