Asante Twagira

I relish the idea of surprising and delighting clients by focussing on delivering the highest quality of service and helping them achieve their goals in the shortest time possible.

Asante Twagira is the Founding Partner of Spencer West Rwanda, bringing 20 years of legal experience to his practice. Based in Kigali, Asante is well recognised for his business advisory work, with particular expertise in Project Finance, M&A transactions, Banking and Finance matters and Corporate Commercial work.

He began his career in Uganda before joining ENSafrica Rwanda in 2012, where he remained for 6 and a half years, before setting up his own practice. Through this, Asante brings valuable commercial insight to his legal practice, giving him a first-hand understanding of the challenges businesses face and the practical, solutions-focused advice they need.

Consistently ranked by Chambers & Partners Global Guide from 2017 to 2025, Asante is known for his professional, responsive client service and is dedicated to maintaining the firm’s reputation as a premier law firm for both Rwandan and international clients.

Relevant experience:

  • Among other deals, Asante led the team that acted as local counsel on an investment by IFC and Proparco into Duval Great Lakes Ltd (the SPV) to help finance the construction, equipping, and placing into operation of a greenfield mixed-use property being developed on a plot opposite the Kigali Convention Center in Kigali, Rwanda.
  • Assisted the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) with regard to a senior secured term loan facility for the construction of commercial office space as the first piece of the Kigali Smart City Development.
  • Assisted with the financing of the construction of Innovation City Campus to the tune of USD 10 Million.
  • Advised on the restructure of a USD 5 Million loan to Africa Leadership University Group (ALU) following a corporate reorganisation at the Group level.

Asante shares the firm’s ambition to expand its service offering within Rwanda and offshore, supporting clients wherever their legal issues arise. He was drawn to Spencer West for its collaborative nature, flexibility, and seamless teamwork, which he believes make client service both efficient and enjoyable in Rwanda’s rapidly growing legal market. By combining local insight with the firm’s international reach, he is focused on helping clients navigate new opportunities and challenges with confidence.
