Spencer West Global Advisors (SWGA) is the global consulting arm of Spencer West. We advise boards, executives, investors, family offices and international businesses on decisions where geopolitics, regulation and commercial risk meet.

The pace of change in trade policy, sanctions, technology rules and political alignment means that many commercial decisions now require more than legal advice. A market entry, a supply-chain shift, a sanctions question or a technology investment can carry political, regulatory and commercial consequences at once. SWGA assists clients read those forces together, and act on them.

We work through a curated network of senior advisers and subject-matter specialists, strategically supported by the reach of the Spencer West network of over 360 partners across 25+ jurisdictions. Our advice is discreet, board-level, commercially grounded, and tailored to the decision in front of the client.

Where a client also requires legal advice, Spencer West’s lawyers are available under a separate engagement — so strategy and law sit side by side.

Spencer West Global Advisors is the global consulting arm of Spencer West. SWGA and Spencer West are separate entities. SWGA is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice; where legal advice is required, clients may separately engage one of the Spencer Westlaw firm entities or other counsel of their choosing.

What we do

SWGA advises across the areas where geopolitical, regulatory and commercial risk converge. Our core areas are geopolitical risk intelligence, scenario planning, sanctions and trade controls, supply chain resilience, technology and data risk, market entry and exit strategy, crisis response and strategic stakeholder engagement.

Geopolitical risk advisory and strategy planning

Forward assessment of the political and policy trajectory in the markets a client depends on, with scenarios, indicators and timetables, so that a board can plan against a direction of travel rather than a snapshot.

Family office and private wealth strategy

For families and family offices, we assess geopolitical, regulatory and mobility exposure across a family’s holdings, residence and structures, and set out how to position them as the rules move. We work alongside Spencer West Private Office, the firm’s Global Immigration and Mobility practice, and the offshore practice of Spencer West LLP across the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and The Bahamas, so that a family can draw on strategy, private-office support, immigration and offshore expertise as one joined-up service. Any legal advice within that service is provided by Spencer West’s lawyers under a separate engagement.

Partner and target screening

Before a client commits to a partner, acquisition target, distributor or joint-venture counterparty, we assess the political, regulatory, reputational and ownership risks that a conventional review may miss: state links, sanctions exposure, sensitive-sector connections, and the standing of the counterparty with the governments that matter.

Transaction due diligence (strategic and reputational)

Alongside the legal and financial diligence a transaction requires, we assess the strategic exposure of a deal: the political risk to the asset, the likelihood of regulatory intervention, foreign-investment screening, and the reputational questions a board should weigh before it signs.

Competitive intelligence

Lawful, ethical intelligence on markets, competitors and counterparties, drawn from open sources and expert networks, to inform market-entry decisions, bids, pricing and positioning.

Supply chain risk assessment

Mapping a client’s sourcing, manufacturing and logistics exposure to sanctions, export controls, forced-labour rules, tariffs and political disruption, and setting out practical options to build resilience.

Sanctions and trade-controls strategy

The commercial and strategic dimension of sanctions and export-control exposure: how the rules are moving, where enforcement is heading, and how a client should position its footprint, counterparties and products. Legal advice on the application of any sanctions or export-control law is provided by Spencer West’s lawyers under a separate engagement.

How we work

Every SWGA engagement is led by a Founding Partner of the firm and delivered with senior advisers chosen for the mandate. Our work takes one of three forms, or a combination.

Forward assessment

A structured analysis of a specific decision or exposure: the political and regulatory forces in play, the scenarios that could unfold, the indicators that would confirm or discount each, and our recommendation.

Continuous monitoring

A standing watch on the developments that matter to a client, delivered as regular briefings calibrated to the client’s footprint, so that the first sign of a change arrives as analysis rather than as a headline.

Decision support

Support for boards, investment committees and executives at the point of decision, including rapid response when a situation moves quickly.

We work discreetly. Our advice is for the client’s own decision-making, and we do not publish or attribute client work. Where a mandate touches on questions of law, we identify the issue and its commercial weight; the legal advice itself comes from Spencer West’s lawyers or from counsel of the client’s choosing, under a separate engagement.

Who we work with

Boards and executive teams of international businesses; private equity and institutional investors; banks, insurers, asset managers and other financial institutions; family offices and their fiduciaries; and public bodies seeking an independent commercial perspective. Our clients share a common need: to make decisions in markets where the rules, and the politics behind them, are moving.

Our people

SWGA is led by its Founding Partners, senior partners of Spencer West who bring the firm’s international reach and its judgement on cross-border business to the consulting arm. Regional leads cover Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the offshore financial centres.

Our senior advisers are drawn from finance, supply chains, technology, national security, regulatory policy and strategic risk. Each brings a career in their field and works with SWGA on the mandates where their expertise counts.
