IP, Tech and Commercial Partner Jowanna Conboye has a comment piece in The Times, discussing Government plans to overhaul  the UK data protection rules.

Jowanna points out that: “For businesses operating internationally, it is likely to mean having to follow two parallel but different data protection compliance regimes, the new UK rules plus the EU’s GDPR as well.”

Announced by the then culture secretary Michelle Donelan at the Conservative Party conference held in October 2022, the plans are intended to provide a “business and consumer friendly British data protection system”.

Further detailing what the new changes could include, Jowanna highlights: “the cost to business of changing the system is likely to be huge and disruptive, and may not even work”.
