James is passionate about all areas of ‘data law’. He demystifies this complex area for his clients and prides himself on delivering thoughtful and practical advice.
James has worked on international projects his entire career and has spent time on secondment in Brussels and Washington, D.C.. He has a particular focus on the life sciences, insurance and government sectors.

He also offers ‘Data Protection Officer’ (DPO) services to clients on a range of flexible bases.
In addition to data protection, James is one of a small number of genuine experts in the ‘law of AI’, having advised the UK government’s Office for AI on the UK’s regulatory strategy for AI. He also works with a range of private sector businesses on AI risk and AI governance strategies.
Alongside his advisory practices, James also has extensive experience of proactive and reactive cybersecurity work and has advised sophisticated multinational clients on major security incidents. He also has deep experience on working with the UK government on data protection policy, and has advised on issues including Brexit, UK data protection law reform, and international transfer strategy.
